Peoples Climate March

This was a collaboration with Valeska Populoh and the Baltimore Peoples Climate Movement in the lead-up to the Peoples Climate March in Washington, DC on April 29, 2017. We put together an art guide and hosted a series of art builds at Black Cherry Puppet Theater to create art that spotlighted local issues and existing campaigns on this national stage.

Our themes, which came out of conversations with community members and local organizations, focused on ‘People Power’ (investing in youth, leadership development, and social justice), ‘Energy, Environment and the Economy’ (a just transition, jobs with dignity, clean energy jobs, zero waste solutions, and renewable energy) and ‘Fair Development’ (community-driven development, community land trusts, permanently affordable housing, and transit equity).

In total, community members, local artists, and the Baltimore Peoples Climate Movement brought the art guide to life and made over 90 signs, banners, and props for the march in DC. Most of these were brought back to Baltimore and continue to be used in local rallies, protests, and events.
