Rise Reclaim Rebuild
This was a collaboration with Valeska Populoh in support of the Baltimore Housing Roundtable's 20/20 Campaign for Fair Development to address the city's housing crisis. Baltimore has the highest eviction rate in the U.S. and at the same time has 30,000 vacants. The 20/20 Vision called on Baltimore City to invest $20 million annually in community-based jobs to deconstruct and green vacant houses and another $20 million annually in permanently affordable housing.
To demonstrate the new model for development without displacement that the 20/20 funds could make a reality, the Baltimore Housing Roundtable embarked on a crowdfunding campaign in 2017. BHR raised over $40,000 for the Curtis Bay Community Land Trust to put toward the purchase of its first home and create quality affordable housing. These handpainted screenprints supported that crowdfunding campaign as donation incentives.
As a result of the 20/20 Campaign, Baltimore City passed the Fund the Trust Act, investing $20 million in the Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
